I grew up spending summers on the Costa del Sol visiting family, and although lovely, it gave me a very one-sided vision of Spain. In the Spain I knew, it was all about the sunshine, the beach, the odd bacon sarnie and a tinto de verano. And then there was Madrid…
I visited Madrid just a few years ago on a short break in the height of summer. It sure was scorchio and sightseeing was a case of: walk for fifteen minutes, stop in a bar with a cold drink for ten. But it was worth it to explore this dreamy city. Madrid is ancient architecture, royal palaces, world-class art, sublime food and a totally different side to Spain than I was used to. This is where style thrives, where culture is rich and where creativity seeps from the streets to the skies.
