Honeymoon in Paris: romantic hotels ideal for newlyweds

When I think about romance, memories of Paris immediately dance through my mind.

Strolling hand-in-hand down leafy boulevards, snuggling up in cosy wine bars, sharing cheese plates in intimate restaurants – the French capital is filled with opportunities for love. Since the Belle Époque, Paris has held an impressive reputation for romance and rightfully so. From the soaring Eiffel Tower to the cobbled streets of La Marais, it’s hard to imagine a more perfect setting for a magical honeymoon.

If you’re planning a honeymoon in Paris, choosing the perfect place to stay is essential. So to help you decide, I’ve rounded up some of the dreamiest hotels in the city. Whether you’re looking for extravagant five-star luxury or whimsical boutique hotels, I hope you’ll find something that suits you here.

A decadent five-star townhouse hotel in Montmartre

1/4

Located in vibrant Montmartre, Hotel Maison Souquet is all about escapism. And as one of the most lavishly romantic hotels in Paris, it’s a special place to celebrate your love. The historic building once housed a Parisian pleasure house and the current décor captures the hedonism and seduction of its past. Designed by Jacques Garcia, the interior is an eclectic combination of antique furniture, ornaments and artwork.

There’s a big focus on luxury fabrics at this hotel. Silk headboards, curtains and fringed lamps add to the decadent, cocoon-like feel of the guest rooms. If you book a Deluxe Room, you can expect your own love nest, complete with Hermés toiletries and perfume. There’s also 24-hour in-room dining, so you’ll have every excuse to stay snuggled up in your room. For even more indulgence, treat yourselves to a Junior Suite. Artwork and sumptuous fabrics amp up the romance in the suites, so you’ll feel like you have your own sanctuary to retreat to.

What makes a honeymoon stay here truly special is the private access to the Maison Souquet spa and pool. The ultimate indulgent treat, the spa is reserved exclusively for guest bookings. And under a ceiling painted with shimmering stars, you can relax in the 10-metre swimming pool. Book the Honeymoon Package for extra treats, like rose petals scattered across your bed, chocolates on arrival and 2 p.m. check out on departure day.

Five-star luxury overlooking the Eiffel Tower and the River Seine

1/4

If your idea of romance involves next-level luxury, then the Shangri La Paris is for you. This historic hotel hogs one of the city’s best locations and was once the home of Napoleon Boneparte’s grandnephew. Elegant to its core and with views of the Eiffel Tower, it’s earned its reputation as one of the best honeymoon hotels in Paris. Expect to be stunned before you even check in, because the lobby rooms sparkle with gold leaf ceilings, neoclassical furnishings and huge fireplaces.

More than half of the 101 guest rooms look out over the Eiffel Tower, so idyllic views come as standard here. But to ensure you get the most romantic spot, book an Eiffel Tower Room. These French-style bedrooms have big windows – perfect for watching the sunset with your love. In the en-suite marble bathroom, the deep tubs were made for indulgent bubble baths and the heated floors are a luxurious touch. Alternatively, you could splash out on the Duplex Eiffel View Suite for a truly extravagant stay. With two-storey-high windows looking out over the River Seine, a spacious living room and a walk in closet, this suite is enchanting.

When you eventually venture out of your room, enjoy some time together in Chi, the hotel spa. Inspired by the peace and contentment of Shangri-La, this light-filled spa is a wonderful place to unwind. Try the nourishing Rose Renewal Body Ritual, before relaxing together in the column-lined pool.

A boutique design hotel in Marais with romantic suites

1/4

If you like eccentric design, then you’ll love Hotel du Petit Moulin. Located in Le Marais, my favourite neighbourhood in Paris, this hotel was designed by Christian Lacroix. But although it’s packed with whimsical design features, the romantic atmosphere is ideal for a French honeymoon. The building that houses the hotel was originally Paris’ first bakery, where Victor Hugo was known to buy his baguettes. The original shop frontage is still there, adding to the hotel’s quirky Parisian vibe. Inside, the mix of colours, textures, styles makes it a fun place to enjoy your honeymoon trip to Paris.

Book a Superior Room for an intimate stay. No two rooms are the same and intricate headboards, Venetian mirrors, and bold furniture amp of the individuality of each one. You’ll even get a brass key to open your door, whisking you back in time to a more romantic era. Or book the Junior Suite to take the glamour up a notch. With its exposed beams, wall murals and a king-size bed to stretch out in, you might not want to leave. But if you do, there’s a cosy honest bar downstairs, where you can relax with glasses of champagne or wine.

Guests also have complimentary access to the tranquil spa at Le Pavilion de la Reine hotel, located off the iconic Place des Vosges. So after a morning of exploring the quiet streets of Le Marais, you can both get massages and relax in the steam bath or jacuzzi.

Located on a cobbled street near historic Rue Mouffetard, staying in this hotel is an intimate experience. And if extravagance isn’t your thing, you’ll love the quiet romance it offers.
