St. Regis Hotel: A Luxury Boutique Experience in the Heart of Vancouver

As one of the most highly visited cities in the nation, it should come as no surprise that Vancouver boasts a large variety of accommodations, ranging from cheap motels to luxury chains.

Within such a varied selection, it can be hard to find a compromise. But just like Goldilocks, the St. Regis Hotel has found a perfect middle ground.

Originally opened in 1913, making it one of the longest continually operating hotels in the city, the St. Regis has an extensive history to reflect on. The hotel made it through the ups and downs of the roaring ‘20s, the Great Depression and two world wars, becoming a go-to spot for athletes and sponsoring the “Vancouver St. Regis” hockey team along the way.

Today, the award-winning boutique hotel is an affordable luxury option that manages to remind of its storied past without feeling dated. Despite the hotel’s $12 million renovations in 2008, the old-time charm remains thanks to the Edwardian-era architecture and sophisticated interior design. However, the modern amenities don’t let you forget that it’s the 21st century.

A Great Location in the Heart of Vancouver

Sitting right next to Granville Station and a block away from Vancouver City Centre Station, the St. Regis is seamlessly connected to Vancouver Airport and Metro Vancouver via the Expo and Canada Skytrain lines. For those arriving by car, underground parking is available.

Thanks to its central location, the hotel makes the perfect base for exploring the downtown area on foot. Pacific Centre Mall and Robson Street, Vancouver’s main shopping strip, are right around the corner if you feel like picking up some wearable souvenirs. For some sightseeing, The city’s picturesque waterfront and trendy Gastown are within a 10-minute walk.

Simple, Elegant Rooms

1/4

Rooms at the St. Regis come in all shapes and sizes to suit every traveller’s needs. While a queen room more than suffice for a couple of nights, the suites are an excellent choice for extended stays, giving guests some extra space to spread out and relax.

Kept in grey, beige and white with dark-wood furnishing and original artwork by US and UK artists, the rooms at the St. Regis are best described as simple yet elegant. Straightforward and simple, the rooms offer everything you need for your stay, including bottled water that’s restocked daily, single-room Wi-Fi, phones and large flat-screen TVs – all included in the room rate.

Feel Welcome at the St. Regis

The hotel staff are extremely attentive and welcoming, but never overdo it. You’ll be greeted at the door and helped with your luggage by reception staff who will not only ensure you can make the most of your stay, but do it in an extremely warm and friendly manner.

Throughout my stay, help was there when I needed it, but never in a pushy way. Whether that was asking for directions or weighing my luggage before departure, they were always eager to make my trip easier. There’s none of the cold attitude you may feel at bigger luxury chain hotels, instead replaced with warmth and generosity.

Make Dinner the Highlight of Your Stay

The wide range of available dining options is without a doubt a highlight at the St. Regis.

St. Regis Bar and Grill is an ideal option anytime you’re hungry and don’t want to leave the premises. Complimentary breakfast is served each day, offering continental fare as well as cooked-to-order hot options. Personally, I think eggs, bacon and hashbrowns are a match made in heaven, so I had everything I needed for an ideal start to my day. Each table gets its own coffee pot, so waiting for refills is a non-issue.

For lunch and dinner, guests can find comfort food and pub favourites, while the bar is a great late-night hangout spot. For a quick coffee on the go, there’s a Starbucks on site as well.

The real highlight, however, is the on-site Gotham Steakhouse, a Vancouver favourite for tourists and locals alike. Granted, it isn’t easy on your wallet; however, it’s more than worth it for a special occasion or simply a one-time vacation treat. Try the New York strip steak with a side of mashed potatoes and asparagus and never look back.

Gotham is well-known around Vancouver not only for its delicious steaks, but also fresh fish and seafood, as well as award-winning wines and carefully crafted cocktails.

Like the hotel staff, Gotham’s restaurant personnel are incredibly friendly and attentive, adding to the overall superb dining experience. From the moment of arrival, hosts will make you feel welcome and ensure your visit is impeccable – whether it’s a dinner with your significant other, a family meal or a group affair in one of the private dining rooms.
