Winnipeg may be home to 100,000 lakes, but that doesn’t mean much when it’s a rainy spring day or a snowy winter wonderland. We’ve chosen our top 5 hotels in Winnipeg with water slides, pools, fountains and Jacuzzis, so that you and your brood can spend a weekend escaping the weather and spending quality time together frolicking in the waves.

A Manitoba Hotel with Waterslides and a Mineral Pool for the Adults

1/4

Winnipeg’s Clarion Hotel & Suites is just a few minutes from the airport, found right next to one of the city’s best shopping centres, Polo Park. This contemporary hotel features an indoor family waterpark with a bright purple, twisty, two-storey slide, a kid’s pool, a rock face waterfall and a whirlpool (some rooms even have an in-suite whirlpool to indulge your love of swirling water).

Frazzled parents have their very own water playground in the shape of the Urban Oasis Mineral Spa. A mineral bath that contains Dead Sea salts, a mineral-rich hydrotherapy pool and an aroma-infused steam room make up this adult water wonderland. Full spa treatments are also on offer.

The spacious rooms and suites are done up in an earthy palette of browns complemented with crisp white bedding infusing the rooms with a sense of calm. Each room features a flat-screen TV, fireplace, table and chairs, mini fridge, a coffee and tea making machine, microwave, free Wi-Fi and local calls. Furry friends are welcome additions at this hotel, and the Paws and Whiskers Program will ensure your cat and canine kids will be as well taken care of as your human ones.

A Hotel with Dinosaur Themed Water Slides

1/4

At the Victoria Inn, with its Dino Beach Waterpark, you can believe you are in a jungle paradise. This hotel is serious about its indoor pool fun. You’ll find four waterslides, a stone façade waterfall and hot tub, fossils in the ‘rock’ walls and even friendly dinosaurs to lend an air of authenticity. Poolside rooms mean a quick getaway to the tropics and parents can watch the kids from the comfort of their rooms.

The hotel also has theme rooms for the tots, designed to fuel their imaginations and take them to outer space, the Sahara desert, the arctic, under the ocean or back to prehistoric times. These rooms come with bunk beds and the kids get their own personal TV. Mom and dad, on the other hand, get their own closed-off room decorated in a tasteful contemporary style. After you tuck the kids into bed, you can pop some popcorn in the room’s microwave and settle in for a night of movie watching. Maybe Jurassic Park?

Cool down in the pool and warm up by the fireplace

1/4

At the Holiday Inn Airport West, the indoor pool is all about frogs, the coolest being the waterslide froggy, whose tongue serves as the slide. There’s also a little kiddie pool and a whirlpool, but the best adventure is the pirate-themed poolside play structure: three storeys tall and full of amusements. Pirate’s Cove Playland will keep the kids occupied while you take some time to look at emails or even, gasp, read a book.

Rooms at the hotel offer comfy bedding, a pillow menu, coffeemaker, mini fridge and microwave and follow a contemporary style in greys, greens and blues. A particularly favourite feature is the double-sided fireplace separating the bedroom from the living room in some of the suites. Order something delicious from room service, paired with a fine wine, and sit in front of the fireplace for a heavenly evening of relaxation once the kids have gone to bed.

A Hotel with More on the Menu Than Just a Waterpark

1/3

Fairfield Inn & Suites Winnipeg made a splash when it opened in 2010, quite literally due to its family-friendly pool. Boasting a twisting tunnel water slide, a bright blue rain shower feature, and a vivid yellow waterfall in the centre of the pool there’s no way your kids are getting bored anytime soon. There are also plenty of loungers and tables and chairs for parents who want to watch the youngsters without taking a dip themselves.

The rooms are currently undergoing a refresh, due to be completed at the end of April 2019, so expect to see modernised rooms in gentle water colour shades that evoke comfort and calm. Room amenities include pillowtop mattresses, flat-screen TVs, complimentary Wi-Fi, mini refrigerators and a microwave for heating up the occasional midnight snack.

Make sure to visit the hotel’s newest addition, Lounge 204. The adults in the group will love the menu full of Manitoba flavours with accompaniments such as homemade pickles. After dinner, stay, perhaps, for a creative cocktail or two before retiring to your room and drifting off, coddled in a sea of bedding.
